Suo padre, un habitué dell'ippodromo, lo portava spesso lì. young Guy would watch the races, captivated by the thrill and the spectacle.
However, Guy's life was not always centered around the hippodrome. At one point, he was on the brink of dropping out of school. But fate had other plans. An ad in Le Nouvelliste, the local newspaper, led him to the opportunity of becoming a racetrack announcer.
Despite being the last candidate for the position, Guy was given a chance, much to the surprise of ten university graduates in communication who did not make the cut. His first contract earned him $75 per performance. On his debut, his father, nervous and hiding in the bathroom, came out as soon as he heard his son's voice.
Before becoming a racecourse announcer, Guy was a comedian and a radio personality. His family's shared interest in horse racing played a significant role in his hobby. However, an incident involving horses had left Guy afraid and his dream of becoming a jockey shattered.
Guy's animated descriptions, known for their famous expressions such as "bumper to bumper!" and "Touchdown!", are improvised. Over the years, his style has remained the same, but he has started to mellow out. Criticisms of his style are frequent, but Guy does not let them deter him. He appreciates the opportunity to practice his art.
Guy compares himself to Celine Dion, suggesting that he may not please everyone despite being nice and skilled at his job. This comparison is apt, considering the international acclaim that both individuals have received in their respective fields.
The Trois-Rivières hippodrome is a place for individuals aged 18 and over. Guy knows the hippodrome well, having frequented it since the age of 10. His father, a gambler and an alcoholic, would leave a box of Cherry Blossom by his window as a sign they were going to the hippodrome the next day.
Guy's journey, marked by resilience and determination, is a testament to the power of following one's passion. Despite the challenges he faced, he has managed to carve out a niche for himself in the world of horse racing, becoming a beloved figure at the Trois-Rivières hippodrome.
