However, the other two siblings were found safe at a remote campsite in the bush after a full day's search at around 4.30pm (0430 GMT). Jill Rogers stated that it was unclear if the children had been told about their father's death.
The mother of the children, known as Cat, expressed her relief and sadness, asking for the family's privacy to be respected as the children reintegrate into a stable and loving environment. She said she was relieved the ordeal had ended.
Authorities had been careful not to threaten the children's safety during the search, receiving sporadic reports about their health and deciding against a full-on search. The police officers pursuing Phillips were supported by fellow officers who arrived shortly after the initial wounded officer.
The incident has sparked concern among the community, with many expressing sympathy for the children and the wounded officer. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to be released in due course.
