However, not all RNC members are aligned with Trump. Terry Lathan, a former Alabama GOP chair, backed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over Trump in the 2024 GOP primary. Bryan Miller, who heads Wyoming’s Republican Party, supported Trump in the 2016 primaries but endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris over Trump in 2024.
The relationship between the White House and the RNC is described as seamless and better than during Trump's first term. U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who chairs the RNC's finance operations, creates an unusually high-ranking link between the White House and the party's fundraising apparatus.
However, some issues, such as the use of armed federal military power to police American cities, remain contentious. Bryan Miller, for instance, has raised questions about this, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law.
The "America First" and MAGA identity of the Republicans are seen as evidence of a movement that predated Trump's presidency and will last beyond. Despite the controversies and divisions, the RNC under Gruters' leadership appears to be firmly entrenched in the Trump era, with the party's future closely tied to the former president's political fortunes.
