Un potente terremoto di magnitudo 6.0 sulla scala Richter ha colpito la frontiera orientale dell'Afghanistan con il Pakistan domenica sera tardi. Il tremito è avvenuto ad una profondità relativamente bassa di 10 chilometri (sei miglia) e il suo epicentro si trovava a 42 chilometri a est-nord-est di Jalalabad, secondo il Servizio Geologico degli Stati Uniti (USGS).
L'USGS ha riferito che il terremoto si è verificato in una regione a rischio sismico. Il terremoto si è verificato alle 23:47 ora locale (19:17 GMT), come riportato dall'agenzia di stampa AFP.
Despite the strength and shallow depth of the tremor, there were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage. However, a commission involving members of parliament and experts has been established to investigate the aftermath of the earthquake in Afghanistan. The results of their findings are set to be reported to the Bundestag by June 30, 2027.
