Despite the mystery surrounding the identity of the buyer who acquired the Yves Saint Laurent gown, a third of the bidders were under the age of 40, indicating a growing interest in vintage fashion among younger generations. In fact, more than 40% of the buyers were first-time fashion bidders for Sotheby's.

Another highly anticipated piece was a pink dress designed by Hubert de Givenchy for Audrey Hepburn. While this iconic garment did not sell in the auction, it was one of the most prized pieces in the collection. Interestingly, the auction featured designs by Givenchy, but only the one for Hepburn was included, with no other pieces by the renowned designer up for sale.

The sale took in a total of $289,000. More than half the lots sold above their high estimate, a testament to the enduring allure of these vintage pieces. Lucy Bishop, former handbags and fashion specialist at Sotheby's in New York City, described the collection as a unique sale that celebrates the art of glamour. She also expressed her excitement about the happy memories that will be created with the lucky new owners of the sold pieces.

The auction's success underscores the enduring appeal of vintage haute couture and the continued interest in the fashion of the 20th century. As we look forward to future auctions, it's clear that the world of fashion will continue to be captivated by the timeless elegance and allure of these iconic pieces.
