La Conferenza Termale della Sassonia, attualmente in corso a Warmbad, Erzgebirgskreis, sta discutendo modi per promuovere le cure preventive ambulatoriali. Queste cure, che di solito durano tre settimane, sono state servizi obbligatori forniti dalle assicurazioni sanitarie statali dal 2021. Tuttavia, sono attualmente poco utilizzate e poco conosciute tra le persone assicurate.
Despite the potential benefits, the income from the spa tax cannot fully cover the financial challenges faced by the health resorts and spas in Saxony. In fact, there is a daily subsidy of up to 16 euros for accommodation costs, which is not sufficient to cover the costs, especially for pension rooms.
The health resorts and spas in Saxony are aiming for a revival of outpatient preventive cures, as they play an important role in tourism outside the major cities of Dresden, Leipzig, and Chemnitz. Last year, the number of visitors to health resorts in Saxony was around 1.27 million, still below the pre-Corona level of 1.4 million.
The 14 Saxon health resorts are concerned about a potential disadvantage compared to other federal states, such as Thuringia, without the special burden equalization. Lorenz, at the Saxon Spa Conference, reiterated the demand for a special burden equalization of ten million euros per year from the state government. However, the names of these health resorts requesting this subsidy have not been disclosed.
In 2021, around 641,000 guest nights with approximately 3.2 million overnight stays were recorded in the health resorts, accounting for around 16% of all overnight stays in Saxony. Outpatient preventive cures are provided by family doctors or specialists, and insured individuals can apply for one every three years if the conditions are met. The health insurance covers the treatment costs, but the patient is responsible for accommodation expenses.
The underutilization of outpatient preventive cures is a concern for the health resorts and spas in Saxony. If more insured individuals were to take advantage of these cures, it could not only help the financial situation of the health resorts but also improve the health and wellbeing of the population. The Saxon Spa Conference is an important step in promoting these cures and finding solutions to the financial challenges faced by the health resorts and spas in Saxony.
