Despite his current battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Wickers' trademark enthusiasm remained undimmed. He was greeted by a crowd of people, some of whom held signs, as he entered the facility, which had arranged tickets to Sunday's game and a suite for Wickers and Pearl staff.

Wickers' room at The Pearl of Evanston is a testament to his love for the Cubs, fully decked out with Cubs paraphernalia. Close friend Janet Tabit often visits, helping to make it feel like home. Wickers has shared his famous chant with Cubs greats like Sammy Sosa and Ernie Banks, and his room echoes with the familiar "Woo Woo" sound these days, although a little softer than before.

The amount of mail Wickers receives and the stories he tells are incredible, according to Hocuk. Hundreds of get-well cards from fans have poured in, a testament to the impact Wickers has had on the Cubs community. Wickers expressed his longing for being out at games, missing the fans, the people, the crack of the bat, and the food.

Despite his current health challenges, Wickers plans to attend more games later in the season, including the World Series. His spirit remains undeterred, and his love for the Cubs continues to inspire all who know him. Sunday's game was a small victory in a larger fight, but for Wickers, it was a day to cherish.
