However, if he leaves the team, other contenders such as the Washington Wizards and Brooklyn Nets, who have the highest cap space to offer a more lucrative deal, could negotiate with him. The Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Minnesota Timberwolves are also potential suitors.
The Pistons can only re-sign Beasley to a contract starting at 120% of what he earned last season, or $7.2 million, due to his non-Bird rights. The team could instead offer him a two-year deal with a second-year player option.
In the meantime, the Pistons have made the best of a bad situation by landing Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson. LeVert signed a two-year, $28.9 million contract with the Pistons after Beasley got ensnared in the gambling investigation. Robinson, a valuable three-point shooter, was also acquired by the team.
As free agency continues, it remains to be seen whether Beasley will return to the Pistons or sign with another team. Regardless of the outcome, the gambling investigation has undoubtedly complicated matters for both Beasley and the Pistons.
