Hyundai presenta il modello di taxi autonomo, ispirato all'IONIQ 5
Motional's Autonomous IONIQ 5 Robotaxi to Debut at IAA in Munich
Motional, a US-based driverless technology firm, is set to unveil its autonomous robotaxi, based on the electrified IONIQ 5, at the 2021 IAA in Munich later this week. The robotaxi, which will be used by ride-hailing firm Lyft, offers Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities, allowing it to operate without a human behind the steering wheel in certain conditions.
The robotaxi is equipped with 30 sensors, including radar, lidar, camera technology, and advanced machine learning, to construct a 360-degree field of vision. This technology enables the vehicle to detect long-distance objects with high-definition images, ensuring safety and efficiency in its operations.
Motional has already established a partnership with Lyft, a US-focused transportation service similar to Uber. This partnership follows a successful three-year collaboration, with Lyft currently utilising a fleet of Motional's autonomous BMW 5 Series vehicles in Las Vegas.
Testing of the Motional robotaxi will commence in the United States later this year, and from 2023, users of the Lyft application will be able to digitally hail the self-driving IONIQ 5 robotaxi across the rideshare network in several major US cities. The robotaxi is set to be deployed in and around the Los Angeles area.
The IONIQ 5 is Hyundai's first electric vehicle built from the ground up, and it is built on the new E-GMP modular vehicle platform. The long-range 72.6kWh RWD powertrain of the IONIQ 5 offers a human-only driving range of approximately 480 kilometres. The autonomous Hyundai IONIQ 5 robotaxis will go on sale in Australia towards the end of 2021.
Joining the ranks of autonomous vehicles testing in California and other western US states are the Motional robotaxi and Google's Chrysler Pacifica-based Waymo self-driving taxi, which is currently testing in Phoenix, Arizona. GM's Cruise autonomous vehicle service is also testing in unspecified western US states.
This development marks a significant step in autonomous driving services, with the autonomous Hyundai IONIQ 5 robotaxis set to be digitally hailed by Lyft customers starting in 2023 in various cities across the USA, including Las Vegas. While specific city names beyond Las Vegas are not explicitly detailed in the available information, this advancement promises a future where autonomous vehicles become an integral part of our daily transportation.
